A weather system that recently developed to the Island’s south is expected to pass Bermuda as a subtropical storm this weekend, according to the Bermuda Weather Service.

In a special statement, the service said: “A subtropical storm has developed about 500 nautical miles south of Bermuda and is expected to move northward, passing 100 to 150 nautical miles to our east as a subtropical storm during Saturday night and Sunday morning.

“Strong winds and gale-force gusts will accompany the passing storm.”

The service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch, meaning that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next two days. There is also a thunderstorm advisory in place for today and tonight, and a small craft advisory in effect for tomorrow.
