As of 6pm, 1,743 customers remained without power, with Belco crews still working tonight on “a number of jobs”, a company spokeswoman said.

“We expect this number to reduce substantially when all jobs are closed out at the end of the night with many crews working late hours,” she added. “Any jobs in progress that are not finished tonight will be rolled over to tomorrow’s work list. Tomorrow’s work areas will be published in the morning.”

Warwick has now overtaken Devonshire as the hardest-hit parish, with 354 customers still without dark.

The tallies for other parishes are as follows: Pembroke, 321; Paget, 197; Devonshire, 262; Southampton, 122; Sandys, three; Smiths, 206; Hamilton, 132, and St. Georges, 146.
