Charities encouraged to target End-to-End

Anne Mello

Local charities are being asked to apply for support through the Bermuda End-to-End’s 28th annual event next year.

The charity walk on May 2 will focus funding on the Bermuda family with all proceeds going toward four or five family-based programmes, projects and/or operating expenses.

“We believe that resilient families are the foundation of a strong, healthy community,” said Anne Mello, chairman of the End-to-End Charitable Trust, which organises the event.

“Many members of our Bermuda families are struggling with enormous challenges, so significant funds from the proceeds of the Catlin End-to-End event can make a real difference in helping them to get through these tough times.

“Each year, over 2,500 participants get into the true spirit of the Catlin End-to-End event and work hard to raise funds that solely support Bermuda charities,

“Over the event’s 27 years, close to $5 million has been given to local charities.”

Applications for support in 2015 are invited to address one of the following areas:

• Seniors — basic needs (food, shelter, clothing) and support services;

• Youth — Enrichment opportunities to help overcome negative social issues; and

• Families — Support services for physical and emotional trauma.

Interested charities must be registered in Bermuda, be unaffiliated with any religious or other sectarian group and serve the local community.

They must also provide complete financial statements and clearly define the issue selected, describe the course of action should the application be successful and be able to measure and identify the impact or outcome that the funding will have on the community.

Submission budgets should be based upon a $50,000 to $65,000 allocation. Funding will be distributed in three equal payments next year: June 15, September 15 and December 15, and a progress report will be required before the final two payments are released.

Applicants must download and complete the official application form from the End-to-End’s website, bermudaendtoend.bm and return it to the charity by the end of business hours on November 7.
