Children coached by visiting rugby players
More than 150 children have been treated to a special coaching clinic hosted by professional players visiting the Island for the World Rugby Classic.
Pupils from 10 primary schools enjoyed a fun session with members of the USA and Canadian squads, which was designed to introduce them to the game.
The children taking part were between the ages of nine and 11 from Saltus Grammar School, Warwick Academy, Prospect Primary, East End Primary, Gilbert Institute, Purvis Primary, Heron Bay Primary, Francis Patton Primary, Harrington Sound Primary and Mount Saint Agnes Academy.
The training session on Monday morning was held at the National Sport Centre’s North Field and was sponsored by Enstar Limited.
Patrick Calow, youth development officer for the Bermuda Rugby Football Union, said the children had a wonderful time.
“The teams were brilliant with the students and really conveyed core aspects of rugby — having fun and everyone participating,” he said. “They enjoyed getting to spend time with the students and teachers as well.
“To have 10 schools participating and see the students and teachers enjoying themselves on the pitch with teams after a challenging few weeks with interruptions of storms and school closures was tremendous.
“We’re very grateful to Enstar for their generous support to facilitate the students from the across the Island experience this wonderful opportunity.”
