Woman ordered to pay $6,000 fines

A Sandys woman was ordered to pay $6,000 in outstanding fines today or face 100 days in prison when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Courtney Lambert, 24, pleaded guilty to driving an uninsured and unlicensed car on June 17 and September 8.

The court heard that Lambert owed a total of $6,000 in unpaid fines from previous convictions for the same offence.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo said: “You are a prolific violator, a persistent offender. You didn’t pay your fines, you didn’t come to court. You are in contempt.”

“I could send you to prison and I ought to for your contempt,” he added.

Mr Tokunbo ordered Lambert to pay the outstanding fines in full today, or spend 100 days in prison.

Lambert was fined a further $3,500 dollars for the most recent offences, to be paid by March 31, and given eight demerit points.
