Months later, storm damage lingers

A number of buildings in the Somerset area are still without roofs as a result of Hurricane Gonzalo hitting the island in October.

The direct hit of Hurricane Gonzalo wreaked havoc on unsecured boats around the Island more than two months ago — and the damage remains visible.

The Royal Gazette took stock of lingering damage along the shores and waters of the West End just before Christmas.

Stricken vessels could be seen at various sites despite the Department of Marine and Ports Services giving an ultimatum that damaged boats would have to be relocated by November 10.

As our photographs attest, casualties from the impact of Hurricane Gonzalo and Hurricane Fay the week before are still in need of attention.
