Chewstick team’s joy at new home

The Chewstick Foundation has found a permanent home on Front Street and is hoping to launch a “soft opening” by mid-April.

Gavin Smith, executive director of the group, declared himself ecstatic at the move from the former Elliott Street premises to a new location at 81 Front Street, the former home of Carole Holding Studios.

“I have to pinch myself at time, because it is so well suited to continue the work that we do,” Mr Smith told The Royal Gazette — although its new home will need extensive renovations.

Mr Smith, co-founder of Chewstick, said the artistic group will maintain its role as a stakeholder in revitalising North Hamilton.

The rent on the Front Street premises was said to be similar to the rent for Elliott Street, but with a larger space. The charity intends to maximise its use of the high-visibility location.
