Man admits using neighbour’s electricity

A 55-year-old man was given a six month conditional discharge in Magistrates’ Court this morning after he admitted dishonestly using his neighbour’s electricity.

The court heard that Michal Tucker, of Paget, plugged his battery and charger into the power outlet in his neighbour’s pump room, without her permission, on January 23.

Prosecutor Loxly Ricketts said that when the neighbour returned home to find the items she called the police.

Tucker told the court that he was having trouble with his car but as his house currently had no power supply he used his neighbour’s outlet to charge his battery.

Tucker apologised and explained that he and his neighbour had exchanged items in the past, and when she returned home he alerted her to the usage and offered to pay for the power he had used.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo took into account Tucker’s early guilty plea and explanation and gave him a six month conditional discharge.

Mr Tokunbo said: “I’m going to take it that you had a neighbourly experience and that it won’t happen again.”
