Teenager accused of prowling

An accused prowler was this morning remanded in custody after denying the offence.

Taijuan Davis, 19, from Warwick, pleaded not guilty to a single count of prowling outside a residence on Hill View Lane in Warwick earlier this week.

The court heard that between 11am and 11.30am on Tuesday, the complainant was washing his car outside his house and talking with a relative. During the conversation, the relative looked behind the complainant and said: “Can I help you?”

The complainant turned around and saw a man wearing all black clothes, with black gloves and a dark-visored helmet holding an unknown object. The man responded “no,” and started to run away.

He was chased down the road. As he did so, he was joined by two other men also wearing black clothes and helmets with dark visors. The three men then fled the area by motorcycle.

The court heard that Mr Davis was arrested hours later after an electronic monitoring device he was wearing in connection to an unrelated matter placed him in the Hill View Lane area at the time of the incident.

However, defence lawyer Dontae Williams said Mr Davis was visiting someone in the area and the facts as laid out by prosecutors didn’t amount to any criminal offence.

Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe remanded Mr Davis into custody until the matter can be mentioned again.
