The Bank of Bermuda Foundation has donated a new community service ministries and response vehicle to The Salvation Army Bermuda Division.

The foundation’s managing director David Lang handed over over the keys to divisional commander Major Frank Pittman this afternoon, who in turn handed them to Social Services director Lionel Cann, who is responsible for the Street Ministry.

The Salvation Army give sandwiches and soup six night a week to needy people from the back of a specially modified van, and they also help in other ways. “It’s all encompassing,” said Mr Cann. “We give spiritual counselling and work with other social services to provide any financial or housing aid.” The Salvation Army have found the demand for their social services has risen in the last two years, according to Mr Cann.

In addition, the vehicle they have been using until now is a smaller one, and 15 years old. “And it was second hand then,” said Mr Cann. Now, it will be retired.
