Celebrate our young learners

The Week of the Young Child begins today and will culminate in a conference focusing on classroom management and behavioural intervention.

The official opening will be on the steps of City Hall in Hamilton from 10am, with music by schoolchildren.

The week has the theme, Celebrating our Youngest Learners, and is put on by the Bermuda Association for the Education of Young Children in conjunction with the Child Development Programme.

Shunna Muhammad, association president, said that Education Minister Wayne Scott would give the opening remarks at today’s ceremony, adding: “Chris Crumpler is our guest speaker. Young female athlete LeiLanni Nesbeth will be stating the proclamation, and various nurseries and preschools will be presenting musical selections.”

Tomorrow has been dubbed “Let’s stay fit”, with the aim of encouraging healthy lunches, wellness and exercise. A family fun evening will be held in Victoria Park from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday, while on Thursday participating schools will have play dates. Students are encouraged to “Wear the Rainbow” on Friday because “our future is bright”.
