North Village Community Club will be hosting its annual triangular football fundraising event on Saturday to raise funds for popular former footballer and DJ Kacy Simons, who is suffering from a rare form of cancer.

Former North Village president, Sherwin Dill said: “Kacy is well known in the community as an outstanding player and DJ, but to North Village, Kacy is a loved brother. Kacy started playing with North Village as a teenager in the Reserve Division. His talent was recognised by his coach, the late [Harold] ‘Doc’ Dowling, and he was quickly elevated to the Premier Division team.

“He played a significant role in the Premier Division team’s success as a versatile midfielder or full back, playing alongside teammates and peers such as Shaun Goater, Parks Dill, the Bascomes (Andrew, Herbie, David), the Jenningses (Elliott, Kentoine, Kevin), Neil Robinson, Vince Trott, and his brothers Dean and Eugene Smith, to name a few.

“Kacy has played in every senior division team for North Village and he also played a short Premier Division stint at Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club. Kacy was a fierce competitor marshalling the midfield. His demeanour on the field was to build on the friendships he made with all teams and players from Somerset to St George’s.

“Kacy was the club’s official home game DJ for many years and he offered his services for numerous North Village events held over the years. He assisted with youth events, club cruises, prizegiving ceremonies, cup celebrations and, of course, fundraising events to benefit players in need of financial assistance. It is now our turn to give back to Kacy.”

After suffering from back pain for approximately eight months, Kacy was given a diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a type of cancer that begins in the blood’s plasma cells. To date, he has received two treatments overseas and he continues to receive chemotherapy locally. On Saturday, starting at 3pm, the fundraising event will involve the Masters Division teams from three local clubs coming together to raise funds to offset Kacy’s mounting medical expenses: North Village, St George’s Cricket Club and Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club. Each player will donate $20 to play. The clubs encourage everyone to come out and support the event.

Donations will be accepted at the game or by online bank transfer to North Village’s HSBC account number 010362564001. All online transfers should reference “Kacy Simons”.

This marks North Village’s fourth annual triangular football fundraiser to benefit one of its members suffering from illness and in need of financial assistance. Former recipients of the funds raised include Mark Jennings, Stevie Dickinson and Kamala Smith.
