Expedia films advert at Tobacco Bay

Tobacco Bay

Global online travel company Expedia is on the Island to help to promote Bermuda as a destination for the young and adventurous.

The company filmed an advertisement yesterday evening at Tobacco Bay’s happy hour-style event, which features live music, a beach bonfire and night-lit water sports.

Expedia contacted Tobacco Bay and asked the operator, Beach Boys management, to host the event.

It is part of a campaign primarily targeting the East Coast of the United States and Britain.

Tobacco Bay partner Belcario Thomas said: “Expedia is here to capture some authentic Bermuda experiences specifically targeting the next generation of travellers to the Island.

“There’s lots of play and exploring that these active next generation of travellers can do in Bermuda during the day — Tobacco Bay is one of them with our water sports, beach bar, safe, clean facilities and live entertainment daily.

“However, there can be a lack of nightlife on the Island and the opportunity was seen to expand and repurpose our beach to cater for that. It is what the market is looking for. This advert will help to show Bermuda in a new light — in a way this next generation of travellers haven’t seen before.

“We collaborated with awesome Bermuda talent to provide a super memorable, energetic experience of bona fide locals, the hotel guests in the area and guest residents, to show that Bermuda is alive at night and that we can provide a nightlife experience that is authentic to the Island.”

The event featured live music by Chris Finsness and Oscar Deuss, complimentary drinks for the first hour, sand sculptors Hannah Emmerson and Mikal Thomas, a beach bonfire and LED water sports.

The Expedia filming project was organised through the Bermuda Tourism Authority and included local co-ordination.
