CedarBridge hosting summer gaming academy

A summer gaming academy is taking place this week at CedarBridge Academy.

The event, organised by the Department of Education in partnership with the Harrisburg University Summer Exploration Camp, is aimed at high school students interested in video games, interactive simulations, new media and the digital arts.

According to a press release from the Bermuda Government, it is an intensive programme designed to introduce “passionate young game designers and developers to the methods and processes used by professional game makers throughout the world”.

It focuses on all aspects of the creative process from ideation to problem solving to delivery, helping students develop skills and strategies to prepare them for a future in the digital media industry.

The camp is an introductory opportunity for Bermuda’s students who are interested in registering to attend next year’s Harrisburg University Summer Exploration Camp, which exposes them to STEM experiences such as gaming technology, exploring Lego robotics and nanobiotechnology explorations.

The Department of Education’s director of academics, Dr Llewellyn Simmons said: “The partnership between Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and the Department has opened a window of opportunity for our teachers and students to explore and enhance their knowledge and skills in creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking.

“This camp represents a further enrichment for our Gifted and Talented Enrichment Programme at the senior school level.”
