Popular musical coming to City Hall
Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone is being staged by the Gilbert & Sullivan Society.
Winner of five Tony awards, including Best Original Score, the show follows a middle-aged, socially awkward musical theatre fan.
As he plays the record of his favourite musical, the fictional 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life on the stage as he wryly comments on the music, story and cast. Praised by New York Magazine as “the perfect Broadway musical”, the show makes fun of the tropes that characterise musical theatre.
Directed by Bermudian Joell Froomkin, the show will be at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall from Thursday, October 1, until Saturday, October 10.
Spectators are urged to dress up in 1920s finery for the Roaring Twenties Gala, being held after the play is debuted.
Tickets cost from $55 and are available online from www.ptix.bm.
