Recent commuters to Hamilton may have spotted volunteers from Pals, the Island’s only home care cancer charity, out in force at the Crow Lane roundabout.

They were there showing their support for the group’s Mad Hair Day fundraiser, taking place today.

Pals is calling on schools, businesses, clubs or just groups of friends to donate $5 for each person to indulge in a day of suitably mad-looking hair.

For $20, participants can join the after party from 5pm to 10pm at Pier 6 on Front Street, where prizes will go to the best mad hair day efforts.

The group, whose annual expenses are now approaching $1.5 million, has been in operation since 1980.

Pals nurses provide services free of charge, including pain and symptom control, counselling, dressing changes and whatever is needed in the care of each patient.

Also free of charge, the group provides medical equipment including electric beds, wheelchairs and walkers.

To assist, register with pals by requesting a form from pals@northrock.bm, or calling 236-7257 and requesting either Carolyn or Lynette.
