Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda is encouraging families, friends and co-workers to don costumes for a good cause.

The youth organisation is hosting a fundraising Wacky Walk in the City through Hamilton this evening.

“We wanted to do something that was community based for families, friends and co-workers that can bring the whole community together,” Patrina Paynter said.

The charity’s managing director added: “We really want people to just come out, to have fun, to laugh.

“I think we need to start doing more family and community-based events that bring the entire Island together.”

With Hallowe’en only a few days ago, Ms Paynter said many people only got to wear their costumes once, so she thought “it would be kind of cool to do something around that”.

“If you want to wear your PJs, wear you PJs. If you want to wear your costume, wear your costume — it’s about having fun and raising money for charity in a respectful way.”

Although the charity has put on a Wacky Walk before, Ms Paynter said it was not on this scale.

“This is our first time doing it in the City of Hamilton,” she added.

Ms Paynter, who is also a radio host for Power 95, will be warming up the crowds as “Power Girl”.

She said participants can expect a fun community event, with lots of music and line dancing. Snacks will also be provided.

The event will start at 6pm at City Hall and the walk will take participants along Church Street, Court Street, Front Street, Queen Street and back on to Church Street.

The charity is asking for a $5 donation for children and students who are taking part and a $10 donation for adults.
