Quest for picture of Bermudian soldier
The nephew of Harry Frost, the last Bermudian soldier killed in the Second World War, has written to the Island in the hope of finding a picture of his uncle.
Lance Corporal Frost died on April 25, 1945, just days before German forces surrendered to the Allies. He was leading his platoon in the capture of the town of Bremen.
“I’m trying to find out if there’s any pictures of him that someone can send to me,” wrote Wayne “Frosty” Frost from Britain, who pays tribute to his uncle on Remembrance Day by wearing his badges.
“My Momma (Uncle Harry’s mother), Amy née Waldron Frost-Bishop, passed away on September 4, 2000. But she and my Daddy, William Walter Frost, taught my brother and I that Uncle Harry was the last Bermudian to die in the Second World War.”
Hoping for photographs and also trying to track down any other service medals, Mr Frost said that the Bermuda Regiment had directed him to the Bermuda Archives, but they had been unable to assist.
“Uncle Harry’s number is bda/18005022 and he is laid to rest in Becklingen war cemetery in Soltau, Germany,” he added.
