Crash after high-speed chase

The 25-year-old man who was seriously injured when he collided with a car on Tuesday evening had been involved in a high-speed chase with police just a few moments earlier.

The Hamilton Parish man had been pursued by officers on motorbikes through Paget. However, he had escaped capture and the chase had ended just prior to the crash that took place at about 7pm at the junction of South Road and Tee Street in Devonshire. He is understood to have collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction at very high speed as it turned up Tee Street and sustained severe leg injuries. He continues to be treated for his injuries in hospital.

A passenger in the car suffered upper body injuries and was also taken to hospital.

Police as well as fire crews attended the accident which resulted in a stretch of Tee Street and South Road being closed while officers conducted a forensic examination of the area.
