Mom’s leap baby joy
Unlike most children, little Seraphina will get to choose her birthday.
As a “leap baby” born on February 29, her mother says she will leave it to her daughter to decide whether to celebrate her birthday on February 28 or on March 1.
The tiny bundle of joy arrived in the world at 11.25am on Monday by Caesarean section.
“It was always my plan that she would be a leap baby,” her mother told The Royal Gazette .
“She was due on March 2, but I am thrilled she was born on Monday.
“The 29th has a very spiritual meaning in every month, and being born on a leap year takes away all the labels that humans like to provide.
“Her name is the archangel of bringing families together.”
Seraphina was one of just two babies born at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on February 29 this year.
Her mother said her daughter had slept pretty well on her first night in the hospital.
“She has been awesome,” she said. “ I want her to grow up believing there will be no labels.
“Being a leap baby will hopefully give her more awareness and openness to life.”
