Consul to share news on job exchanges

Mary Ellen Koenig, United States Consul General

United States Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig will host an information session about exchange opportunities available to young Bermudians to work and travel in the United States

The session in Bermuda College’s North Hall at 1pm on Wednesday, is open to young people from any school in Bermuda and their parents.

The US Department of State oversees exchange programmes, which provide opportunities to work in a wide range of fields while also providing exposure to American culture and travel opportunities.

Participants in these exchange programmes work as camp counsellors, au pairs or interns, or in fields such as the hospitality industry and theme parks around the country.

Work and study programmes are operated by numerous organisations in the United States that promote educational travel.

Each programme seeks to introduce young people from abroad to American culture. These organisations are responsible for job placements and provide advice on visas, housing, and other programme issues; fees for these services are charged and vary from organisation to organisation.

Each organisation is vetted by and overseen by the Department of State to ensure participants’ health, welfare and safety through government-mandated regulations.
