New tourist attraction planned for Dockyard

A local entrepreneur is hoping to open a new tourist attraction in Dockyard this summer

A local entrepreneur is hoping to open a new tourist attraction, including mobile simulators and a labyrinth, in Dockyard this summer.

Hilton Brown said the project was the result of years of work, saying he had been looking for a space of land to lease in Dockyard since 2012.

“I was able to finally get a lease last December,” he said. “I have spent a few years steadily working on this.

“I’m hoping realistically to have it open in the beginning of June, although that depends on how long it takes to ship the equipment in.”

The project, which received planning approval earlier this month, proposes erecting two 12-seat theatres and two mobile simulators in an unused area of Dockyard southwest of Snorkel Park. The simulators, which would be installed in the back of specially equipped trucks, will feature moving seats that, when synchronised with a video and audio presentation, create an immersive experience.

Screenings in the theatres and the simulator would be short, not lasting more than 15 minutes, and feature Bermuda-themed experiences in addition to other subjects.

The site would also feature an open-air labyrinth for guests with all of the structures on the site being “durable, attractive and impermanent”, designed in a “somewhat whimsical” style.

When up and running, Mr Hilton said the site would employ around five people and hopefully provide entertainment for a steady stream of guests.
