Isabella Johnston hopes to be rocking a bob like Taylor Swift’s when she chops her locks off for charity this month.

The seven-year-old BHS student, affectionately known as Izzy, is to donate ten inches of her hair to the charity Locks of Love, which provides wigs for disadvantaged children.

She decided to do the good deed after her little sister Georgi’s godmother Marianne Markey died — with money going towards the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston where she was treated. Isabella told The Royal Gazette: “Last year my school was doing Locks of Love and I wanted to do it but I missed the deadline.

“I thought it was just a special day like St Baldrick’s. Then, when I asked, I found out you can do it any day you want.

“When my sister’s godmother died it made me want to do it even more.”

Asked how she was feeling about the chop, Isabella said: “I am excited and maybe a bit nervous. I can’t look into the future and see what I will look like ... I want a bob like Taylor Swift.”

Isabella, who will say goodbye to her long locks on Tuesday next week, has surpassed her own fundraising expectations — she set out to raise $2,000 for the institute and has raised a total of $7,675.

She is continuing to raise funds and has sent out a message to friends and family, saying: “We all loved her [Marianne] very deeply.

“She was trying very hard for seven years to fight the horrid cancer she had.

“Sadly, one day she passed away but we have lovely memories of her.

“I have plenty of hair and some people don’t have any. So when I cut ten inches of my own hair off, I will still have hair and other people will have some of their own because Locks of Love turn donated hair into wigs for children.

“I wanted to do it so I could get sponsorship money so I can send to the institute that she was at in Boston.”

Isabella’s mother Rebecca added: “We want to thank everyone who has donated so far.”
