KFC has helped the Bermuda Red Cross to raise more than $4,000 to help the charity work in the community.

Last month was Red Cross month in Bermuda, and the charity approached KFC to ask for help raising awareness of its activities and solicit donations.

Vice-president of KFC Operations Jason Benevides said: “KFC has been part of Bermuda culture and the Bermuda community for more than four decades.

“Overwhelmingly both our staff and customers are Bermudians, so when we are given an opportunity to assist local organisations who support the community in which we all live, we are glad to help when we can.” Throughout the month of May, KFC customers were asked to add $1 to their purchase to support the Bermuda Red Cross.

Long-term KFC cashier Lillian Grant was the top fund raiser, collecting nearly half of the $4,223 in customer donations.

KFC general manager Ginene McSwain said “KFC is very much a part of the local community in Bermuda and seeks to support initiatives which benefit our customers, our staff, and the wider community. We are very grateful to our community minded customers in helping us support such a worthwhile cause.”

On receiving the donations cheque from KFC, Red Cross fundraising and communications manager Suzanne DeCouto said: “Through this campaign and past initiatives, KFC and its customers have shown themselves to be great friends of the Bermuda Red Cross and we could not be more thankful for their latest generous contribution to our community programmes.

“The Red Cross will put these funds to work in the local community to the benefit of all Bermuda residents. We are grateful for KFC’s efforts and look forward to working with them again.”
