Activist in plea for support

Seeking assistance: Cleveland Simmons needs medical treatment overseas

After years of helping others get medical help, grassroots activist Cleveland Simmons is turning to the public for assistance of his own.

“I’ve been so busy looking after people, I haven’t been able to take care of myself,” Mr Simmons told The Royal Gazette.

From 10am today, Mr Simmons will be selling a variety of household and electrical goods from the V & L variety store on Court Street. Mr Simmons was left with lingering injuries from a robbery four years ago in which his attackers broke his jaw and nose.

The funds raised will help him in his travels to a hospital in Canada, where he is hoping to have his jaw properly fixed.

It comes just a month after a successful fight to help cancer patient Cherrie Woods get help leaving the island for treatment in Britain after she was refused entry to the United States.

“It’s time for me to get this done — I would like people that know me to come out and support me,” Mr Simmons said.
