Devising technology that will “enhanced life in Bermuda” is the aim of Bermuda Technology Innovation Awards which will be presented later this year.

And from now until October 21, members of the public can log on to www.techawards.bm where they can nominate their favourite “innovative technological advancement.”

Past winners include the mobile app for Official Hollywood Walk of Fame, Trunomi’s identity encryption platform, Gorham’s iOS mobile apps, Saltus Student Schedule app, Hitch’s mobile taxi reservation app, and the Bermuda Football Association mobile app.

“. . . all are innovative, compelling, motivating ways in which technology has enhanced life in Bermuda,” said a Government spokesperson.

And the island wants more.

Grant Gibbons, Minister of Economic Development, said: “The TechAwards allow the Department of E-Commerce to recognise the Bermuda residents and Bermuda-based organisations which have provided notable technology solutions to Bermuda and its residents.

“Every year, the winners demonstrate that Bermuda has what it takes when it comes to technological innovation and achievement. The Bermuda public is the driving force of TechAwards — so we once again look forward to active participation as we seek out local innovative achievements that should be recognised and applauded.”

The Ministry’s Department of E-Commerce has sponsored the awards since 2006. It leads the threefold process which begins with the public submitting nominations for Bermuda’s best in technology in four specific categories — International Innovation of the Year, Local Innovation of the Year, Innovative Youth Programme of the Year, and Mobile Application of the Year.

The TechAwards committee evaluates each nomination and submits those that meet the criteria to a panel of judges. The qualified nominees are then interviewed by the judging panels and the top five finishers in each of the four categories will be recognised during the Celebration of Innovation and Entrepreneurship on November 17.
