Walk to support recovering addicts

Participants in the Salivation Army’s 2011 Recovery Walk

The Salvation Army is today holding its seventh annual Recovery Walk to highlight “the struggle of addiction and the toil it has on the social fabric of the community”.

The clients and staff at the charity’s Harbour Light addiction programme completed a walk during the Salvation Army’s 30th anniversary celebration and decided to continue this tradition for Recovery month.

Residents and staff will set out at 10am from the King Street Facility, with members of the community invited to join in along the route on Bermudiana Road, near the ACE water fountain or at City Hall.

The group will be wearing red T-shirts, carrying balloons and handing out pamphlets and candies.

According to programme director Augustina Ibegbuna-Raynor, the walk “recognises the achievements of individuals in recovery from alcohol or drugs and celebrates the support and commitment from treatment providers, family members and friends who support those with substance use disorder”.

Participants are encouraged to wear red to support the Salvation Army.
