Masterworks marks 30 years

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art is celebrating 30 years of highlighting the best of its growing collection.

On Thursday the museum will open its official 30th anniversary exhibit, Room with a View, which will include four separate displays featuring some of the most significant works from the museum’s vault.

The first of the displays, Bermuda 4 Sail, honours the island’s long maritime history, while Gleizes, Hartley and Demuth will celebrate the Centennial visit to Bermuda of the trio of modernist artists.

Another display, entitled Canada, Eh?, will stand as a tribute to Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation.

Meanwhile the fourth display, the 30th Anniversary Collection, will boast some of the best works donated to the museum by Bermudians, residents and former residents of the island.

Tom Butterfield, Masterworks founder, said: “This is a very special exhibit and the notion behind it is that we had a number of topics we wanted to be able to put under one roof, in one room, and will be including a number of different points of view in that.

“What I hope people will take with them after seeing this is a very rare, rare experience encompassing the island’s past and present. By grouping together these topics we have a clear picture of the variety, depth and strength that this collection brings to Bermuda.”
