Man admits stealing food

A Devonshire man was fined this morning for stealing food from a Hamilton supermarket.

Daniel Roach, 28, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing $22.87 of food from the MarketPlace on Church Street in an incident on December 15.

The court heard that at around 9.30am that day, a manager noticed him placing breakfast items and baked goods in a container.

Roach was later confronted by the manager when he approached the store’s elevator without going to a cashier.

Addressing the court, Roach apologised for his actions, claiming that a change in medication had left him confused and disoriented, adding: “It was a complete mistake.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Roach $300 for the offence.
