Family fun day in troubled Parkside area
Young people from a gang-plagued area are invited to a special family day to “have pure fun”.
The event, organised by Desmond Crockwell of YouthVision Promotions and Lynwood Richardson of Soulfood Promotions, was designed to create a more positive atmosphere in the troubled Parkside area.
Mr Crockwell said: “As you may be aware, this is the neighbourhood of the Parkside, and we are trying to create a positive atmosphere in one of the more ‘at-risk’ areas in Bermuda.
“We want our young people, Parkside included, to come out and have pure fun.
“This is not an event that we take lightly, as we are aware of the risk of us attempting to bring together a neighbourhood that many regard as at risk.”
But he added: “They are our neighbours, as we are one Bermuda.
“We encourage everyone to come out and have fun, from politicians to parents. This is for the community.
“As you may have heard recently, there is no money in the government kitty to support such events and organisations, so it is important that we get the community to support one another.”
The fun day will feature a family football match, as well as other sports, games and live entertainment at Parsons Road playground on Saturday, from 2pm to 7pm.
The football match begins at 4pm and is open to all, including mothers and fathers, sons and daughters.
Other activities include remote control cars and drones, video games, table tennis, martial arts demonstrations and volleyball.
