The island’s chefs will square off in a night of fundraising fun for charity.

Along with culinary “bragging rights”, a gold sovereign is among the prizes for the soup-a-bowl this month from the Eliza DoLittle Society.

The charity is dedicated to providing food to the needy, sponsoring feeding centres as well as a pantry and food voucher programme for seniors.

The night of food and entertainment is set for May 19 in honour of Margaret Vaucrosson, a founding member of the charity who died in November 2017.

Student chefs from the Bermuda College will pit their soup skills against entrants from Beau Rivage, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Buzz, Chopstix, Docksider’s, the Hamilton Princess Hotel, New Catering Concepts, The Loren and reigning champions Tempest Bistro.

The door prize for this year is a 1907 Edward VII Gold Sovereign coin, donated by volunteer David Lang, who will MC the night.

Artwork by Alfred Birdsey, Ms Vaucrosson’s favourite artist, will be on offer — with another piece of art created by his daughter, Jo Linberg, specially for the event.

Auctions will be directed by Karen Pilanthos from Bermuda Wine Concierge.

“The two pieces will be sold as a set and stand to make some collector extremely happy,” said Jennifer Mahoney, executive director of the society.

The soup-a-bowl will incorporate elements of Ms Vaucrosson’s favourite things, she added.

Auction items include “bundles that provide bidders with experiences, opposed to a one-off item”, Ms Mahoney said, thanking the Bermuda Sloop Foundation for putting together one of the collections.

Demand for food continues to rise, and the charity also thanked sponsors and supporters, including HSBC Bermuda, Lindo’s, the Hamilton Princess, Gosling’s Ltd and GiMi

Tickets can be purchased through PTIX or by contacting The Eliza DoLittle Society at 333-4483 or teds.director@gmail.com.
