Conference on ocean sustainability
A marine sustainability conference is to be held in Bermuda later this month, with the help of environmental group Plastic Tides.
The Project Blue conference is set to bring activists, athletes and ocean sustainability experts to the island late next month.
The event will run from May 30 to June 1 will all of the scheduled meetings or talks taking place outdoors instead of in conference rooms.
The inaugural conference was held last year in Noli, a coastal town in Italy.
The conference will also be linked with this June’s Devil’s Isle Challenge, a paddleboarding racing weekend organised by Plastic Tides, which campaigns to stop plastic waste being dumped in the sea.
Glenn Jones, director of public and stakeholder relations for the Bermuda Tourism Authority, said they were happy to hear about the conference.
He said: “The BTA proudly supports the Devil’s Isle Challenge through the tourism experiences investment process and the team is glad to hear about this additional, complementing event that has materialised.
“Enjoying the ocean recreationally is a major part of the Bermuda visitor experience so naturally we welcome any visiting group interested in preserving the health of our waterways.
“A healthy ocean is the lifeblood of our tourism economy.”
