A total of 17 licensed premises across the island faced the courts yesterday for failure to apply for their liquor licences on time.

Owners, managers and other senior members of staff went before the Liquor Licensing Authority and its chairman Juan Wolffe to explain why their renewal applications were late.

The deadline for applications was March 14. Failure to submit applications can result in liquor licences being revoked.

The licensed premises in the west were Woody’s Drive Inn Two, Nightclubs and Alfresco, Dockyard Pharmacy, Prestige Cocktails, Warwick Esso Tigermart, Hayward’s Liquor Store, Conyers Imports, Anchor Restaurant, Alfresco, the Prison Officers Recreational Club; and the Southampton Rangers Sports Club.

The Wharf, Wahoo Bistro and Patio, Tempest Bistro, Harrington Workmen’s Club, East End Mini Yacht Club, Strykz Bowling Lounge, the Bermuda Royal Artillery Association and Rosewood Bermuda were the affected premises in the east end.

All the late applicants were told they would be contacted by the end of yesterday with a decision.
