TEDx talks return to the stage next month

A former Disney designer, a researcher studying how cells communicate and a pair of married psychiatrists are among those who will take the stage next month at TEDxBermuda.

The annual event, to be held at the Fairmont Southampton's Mid Ocean Amphitheatre on October 6, is set to feature a range of international speakers tackling a wide range of subjects.

Among the speakers are Ayanna Howard, professor and chair of the School of Interactive Computing at George Institute of Technology, who has named one of the most powerful women engineers in the world by Business Insider.

Dr Howard has included advancements in artificial intelligence, assistive technologies and robotics.

She will be joined by Eddie Sotto, who has served as senior vice president of concept design at Disney's Imagineering Division, where he worked on key parts of Euro Disneyland and Disneyland Tokyo, along with rides at other Disney parks.

Also speaking is Pradipta Ghosh, the founding director of the Centre for Network Medicine at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr Ghosh, a professor of medicine and cellular and molecular medicine, has studied the how cells think and communicate with the goal of treating diverse diseases.

Sam Wass, who has been featured in the Channel 4 series The Secret Life of 4-, 5- and 6-Year-Olds, will also make a presentation.

Dr Wass has studied how concentration, stress and learning capacities develop during childhood.

Other announced presenters include married couple Jacqueline Olds and Richard Schwarts — both psychiatrists and psychoanalysts — and Michael Brett, CEO of QxBranch, who has worked to solve data analytics problems for finance, insurance and energy customers around the world.

The event will also have a taste of music with the Coral Beats — an all-woman Brazilian Samba Reggae Drum Band founded last year by Sue Riihiluoma.
