The Bermuda Heroes Weekend Carnival next year will run over ten days instead of only four, organisers announced yesterday.

A spokesman for BHW Ltd said the fifth annual carnival would also be used to highlight people who helped form modern Bermuda.

Jason Sukdeo of BHW said he was pleased the event had expanded.

Mr Sukdeo said: “This year we had more than 1,000 visitors to the island, and at the Parade of Bands, we had around 10,000 people.”

He added: “There have always been people asking for more events and opportunities to get involved.

“The schedule was pretty packed this year in just four days.

“The idea is that with more time, we can do more and make better use of the events that we do have.”

The event will run from June 7 to June 17.

A spokesman said: “From family gatherings to our special teen-only party, and to, of course, our strictly adult affairs, we will have everyone making merry for a full ten days.

“Additionally, the team recognises the momentous occasion of this anniversary for what it truly is — a reflection of the tremendous support freely given to them over the last five years, as well as an opportunity to show the heartfelt gratitude felt by every single member of BHW.

“Understanding this, the team has collectively agreed that as this milestone is commemorated, the carnival this year will be more community based with exclusive emphasis on the Heroes of Bermuda.”
