A song competition to find an anthem for Bermuda Relay For Life has been launched.

The winning song will be played in front of hundreds of people who attend the sixth staging of the event this year, and will be the anthem for years to come, a spokeswoman at the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre said.

Laura-Jane Bell, volunteer chairwoman of entertainment said: “Bermuda Relay is thrilled to provide this opportunity for local musicians and songwriters to create a one of a kind song that encompasses the spirit of Relay.”

Ms Bell added: “Bermuda is fortunate to have an amazing music scene, and we are hoping that there is an individual or group out there that can bring the Celebrate, Remember, Fightback spirit of Relay to music, of course with the Bermudian twist.”

The entry should be a maximum of two minutes long and should be music and lyrics which are performed, produced or written by the contestant and for which the contestant owns rights.

Previously released music may be submitted if it meets these criteria.

Organisers said the songs did not have to be polished, studio-quality recordings.

Submissions are now being accepted with the deadline for entries April 20.

Entries must be submitted as MP3 files via e-mail to relayforlife@chc.bm

The winner of the competition will be announced May 10.

Relay For Life, hosted by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, will be held at the National Sport Sports Centre on May 17 and 18.
