A bonanza of bargains will be available at the Salvation Army’s thrift store today.

All items at the charity’s store will be on offer with $2 price tags to celebrate its reopening after renovations.

A Salvation Army spokeswoman said: “Our thrift store needed a makeover to maintain the hidden beauty and potential that lies within its walls. The result is amazing.”

She said: “We welcome the community to come and experience this new shopping environment and in so doing help the Salvation Army to support its programmes and mission.”

Chandra-Lee Bascome, business manager at the Salvation Army, said the refurbished store, on King Street, Hamilton, was now also better organised.

Household items are now at the front of the store and clothes at the back. A section devoted to shoes has also been created and a changing room added.

Ms Bascome said: “We had a survey done a year ago and customers suggested that a changing room was needed.”

The interior of the store has been repainted white so stock will “pop more”.

Ms Bascome said the Salvation Army planned to organise clothes by size soon.

She added that the store welcomed more volunteers to make the shopping experience even more enjoyable for customers.

Elison Smith, the store supervisor said: “We really do appreciate the donations and people coming in.”

She said Bermudians were generous and the thrift shop attracted a large number of donations.

The spokeswoman said the thrift store also attracted repeat cruise ship passengers “who head towards the back of town once the ship has docked”.

There is a large selection of items for men, women and children.

Stock includes shoes, dresses, slacks, summer shirts and blouses, children’s wear, belts, handbags, lingerie, swimwear and household items.
