Relay for Life raises $600,000 for charity
Almost $645,000 has been collected so far from the sixth Relay for Life in Bermuda.
Organisers said the total was made up of $421,812 in donations, $27,919 in registration fees and $194,994 in sponsorship money.
Deborah Titterton Narraway, the chief marketing officer at event organiser the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, said: “We are so fortunate that the Bermudian community has embraced this event and that, six years in, Relay for Life continues to be Bermuda’s largest fundraising event. Donations will continue to come in throughout the summer.
“It wouldn’t be possible without our amazing volunteer event-planning team, the 121 participating teams who fundraise in the months leading up to the event and on the Relay field and the thousands of people who attend the 24-hour event and support the teams by playing games and purchasing merchandise and food.”
She added: “With one in three people likely to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, Relay For Life of Bermuda is for everyone.”
The 24-hour event was held at the National Sports Centre in May to raise awareness and funds to help with cancer prevention, early detection, treatment and support provided by the BCHC.
At least one member of each group was always on the track to represent the idea that “cancer never sleeps so, for one night, we won’t, either”.
