A blocked sewage pipe that created a stink was fixed.

The pipe, on Palmetto Road in Devonshire, leaked sewage on to the roadway on Monday.

But a spokeswoman for the public works ministry said yesterday that staff had fixed the pipe, which sprang a leak near the Tynes Bay waste treatment centre.

She added: “There are no residents in the immediate area and the Ministry notes there were no health risks associated with the blockage.

“Relevant stakeholders and sewage truckers were informed of the inconvenience.”
