Essential services run by the Department of Works and Engineering are operating as normal, the Government said yesterday. A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works said that the public would “experience no change in service levels”. He added: “This includes garbage collection and public access to the Tynes Bay Waste to Energy Facility.” The spokesman said that the Department of Parks would operate in a limited capacity until April 6. He explained: “Park Rangers will monitor parks and beaches throughout the week on a limited basis. “However, for safety reasons, all bathroom facilities will be locked and no staff will be on duty to monitor the area. As such, the use of parks and beaches will be at the public’s own risk.”The spokesman said that garbage collection in parks and at beaches would be “periodic” and that a small team would carry out gardening work at government properties.Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, said that planning before the first confirmed cases of Covid-19 meant that the ministry was able to “reduce the impact to essential government services”. He added: “I thank the team from the ministry for their hard work and commitment and encourage everyone in Bermuda to protect themselves and help prevent the spread of Covid-19 by following the instructions of the Ministry of Health.”
