An annual cancer fundraising event will take place in virtual form this evening.

The 2020 Relay for Life, which supports the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, will start at 6pm “island wide” with participants to register and join in from their homes, with registration fees to go towards radiation therapy.

The event will begin with an online version of the event’s opening “survivor’s lap”, which will feature cancer survivors who have submitted their pictures and videos.

It can be seen on www.facebook.com/BermudaRelay.

The public have also been invited to take part in a Luminaria Remembrance ceremony by placing lights outside at 9pm to remember those who have been lost to cancer, those who are still fighting and those who help them.

There will also be music, online exercise classes, games and fundraisers as part of the event.

Funds raised in Relay for Life help to cover cancer treatment costs for uninsured and underinsured members of the public.

The event has historically raised more than $700,000 in donations annually to provide equal access to cancer care.
