Bermuda crush UAE by eight wickets

David Hemp scored an unbeaten 70, Stefan Kelly took four wickets, and Bermuda produced a thumping performance to beat UAE by eight wickets in Dubai today.Chasing 150 to win, Bermuda knocked off the runs with 3.2 overs to spare after they had held UAE to 149 for eight in the morning. The visiting team out-batted, out-bowled, and completely outplayed their hosts at the ICC Global Cricket Academy ground. And the only wickets that Bermuda lost was through two run outs, one of which brought an abrupt end to Dion Stovell's best innings of the tour so far.Stovell and Hemp put on 67 for the first wicket, before Hemp ran out his opening partner with a mix-up that left Stovell stranded at the non-striker's end alongside his captain.Still, Hemp and Anderson then steadily guided Bermuda to within sight of victory, before Anderson was run out, with 10 runs needed. Lionel Cann quickly accounted for those with a four and a six.Earlier, Bermuda produced their best display in the field for a long time as they held UAE to 149 for eight in Dubai this morning. And the team displayed their improved mental toughness in a game that has been reduced to 34 overs a side to accommodate the UAE's religious obligations on what is their holiest day of the week.Having arrived at the ground expecting a 9.30am start, Bermuda were forced to wait until 10am while the two sides thrashed out an agreement on the UAE's insistent that there be a break for prayers. In the end it was agreed that the game would start at 10am, the first innings would finish at 12.20pm, and the second resume at 1.30pm.It would have been easy for Bermuda to allow themselves to be distracted in such an event, but they came out fired-up, fully focused, and behind a fearsome spell of fast bowling from Stefan Kelly tore through the UAE batting order.Kelly has been Bermuda's best bowler on tour so far, and he accounted for four of the top six batsmen in an eight over spell that saw him take four wickets for 39 runs.Ably supported by Malachi Jones, who got rid of opener Afran Haider (29), and Rodney Trott, who took two wickets for just three runs in four overs, a Kelly-led Bermuda had the home side down and almost out at 91 for eight. However, Amjad Javed then led a spirited fight back with an unbeaten 57 as he and Qasim Zubair (7*) put on 58 for the last wicket.Javed's half century came from just 53 balls, and included three fours, and three sixes. He played a chanceless innings, and was the sole reason that UAE were able to end their innings with a relatively competitive total.
