Bermudian trio run into trouble in Caribbean
Just days after Bermuda's under-15 national cricket team completed a clean sweep of convincing victories in the Americas Regional Tournament in Florida, three of the Island's other up and coming youngsters found themselves on the wrong end of a humiliating thrashing.
Detroy Smith, Jekon Edness and Jacobi Robinson were all members of the Rest of Americas Select who were skittled out for an embarrassing total of 12 in their match against Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies Regional Under-19 Tournament.
Smith, Edness and Robinson failed to score a single run between them. But they weren't alone as seven other members of the side were also dismissed for ducks as Trinidadian fast bowler Ravi Rampaul returned the astonishing figures of 10 wickets for six runs off 6.4 overs.
Only one batsman in the Rest side managed to get on the board, F.Chin scoring four while the remaining eight runs were recorded as extras.
In the second innings, the Rest did slightly better but were still bundled out for 104 runs on their way to a ten-wicket defeat.
Trinidad scored 96 for two declared and 21 without loss.
Rampaul also followed up with yet another superlative bowling feat, claiming eight wickets for 52 runs during his team's second successive win against defending champions Leeward Islands.
He was also a member of the West Indies squad in 2000 that won the under 15 World Cup in England.
More disappointment, however, was to come as the Rest took on Barbados in their second match and were crushed by an innings and 228 runs.
With Robinson ruled out through injury, Smith made six and Edness nine as the Rest totalled 87. But Barbados then replied with 395, Smith returning figures of one for 11 off just five balls bowled.
In the second innings, the Rest were dismissed for 80, Smith being the second highest scorer with 18 and Edness the third best with 12.
Today, the Americas side are due to play the Leeward Islands with Bermudian Stephen Outerbridge, recently graduated from the West Indies Cricket Academy in Grenada, due to join the team.
