Furbert quits BFA post

Bermuda Football Association (BFA) first vice-president Chris Furbert resigned from his executive position during the association's AGM held last week at Young Men's Social Club.

Furbert stood down after serving four years in the position, prompting his BFA colleagues to hold elections to fill the void left by the long-serving Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC) executive.

Western Stars Sports Club executive Cal Blankendal and Devonshire Colts executive Lloyd Holder were both nominated from the floor, but remained deadlocked at seven votes apiece after the 14 clubs present for the meeting had all cast their ballots.

A total of seven of the association's affiliates failed to attend last Thursday's AGM.

In accordance with the BFA's constitution, another meeting must be scheduled within 21 days after the AGM.

BFA officials are expected to announce that date later this week.

Blankendal and Holder will again run against each other, with affiliates absent from last week's AGM permitted to join the congress in elections for Furbert's vacant position.

Meanwhile, executive council member Roxianna Richardson did not run for re-election. That vacancy was filled by Devonshire Recreation Club's Lloyd Smith, while St.David's County Cricket Club's Aaron Lugo replaced executive council member Delroy O'Brien who resigned from the post earlier this year.

A motion to increase gate admission at all domestic matches at club grounds was also approved by the general assembly during last week's meeting.

Admission will now be $10 for adults ? an increase of two dollars ? five dollars for children under the age of 12 ? also an increase of two dollars ? while children under the age of five will be admitted free.
