Sims facing uphill battle
Michael Sims' hopes of securing playing privileges on either the PGA Tour or Buy.com Tour next year appeared to be slipping away yesterday.
Despite a third round score of one-under-par 71 - his best of the week so far - the 23-year-old Bermudian knows he has it all to do when he steps out for the final round in the second stage qualifying tournament (Q-School) at the Deerwood Club in Kingwood, Texas today.
Of 77 players in the field only the top 20 and ties will progress to the final stage of Q-School following today's final round.
And as of last night, Sims was in a tie for 38th with a 54-hole total of 218 - five shots adrift of those who are currently tied for the all-important 20th spot.
Having started with a disappointing round of 75 on Tuesday, the Rhode Island university graduate improved to an even-par 72 on Wednesday before carding 71 yesterday.
But he'll likely need a round of well under par today in order to make the cut.
Current leader, American Steve Haskins shot 68 yesterday for a three-round total of 205, one shot ahead of former PGA Tour player Bill Glasson, who turned in a 71, having opened on Tuesday with a 66.
Sims has already qualified for the South American Tour next year should he fail to earn his card in the US.
