Allan to the rescue

Ricky Hodsoll of St. George's are among this week's Fab Five after performances that proved to be the difference in their teams' victories last weekend.

Joining the batting stars are bowlers Rodney Fubler of Willow Cuts and Gerald Sims of Flatts.

Allan Douglas: Had to be stunned when he arrived at Sea Breeze Oval last Sunday after a church service to find his side struggling against Southampton.

Quinton Burch and Ryan Belboda conspired to have Cleveland at 94 for seven when Douglas came to the wicket to perform his heroics. Concentrating primarily on his wicket-keeping, an innings of 105 was highly unexpected. But it was what Cleveland needed to pull off a surprise 86-run thrashing. Douglas, who hit 11 fours and six sixes, added 60 with Johnny Richardson, 51 with Del Hollis and 47 with last man Diallo Sharrieff.

Robin Swan: After Police had amassed 277 for five, Somerset Bridge were expected to go through the motions. But, in perhaps the most stunning second innings performance in a few seasons, Bridge dealt Police their second loss, which surely undermines their chances of league glory. Swan was the man in the middle of it all with an unbeaten 100 coming in at number five. A fifth-wicket partnership of 142 with Brian Gibbons (69) was the foundation. And but for an unfortunate run out, the defeat could have been heavier. As it was, Bridge scored 280 for six with 16 balls remaining, speaking volumes for Police's inefficiencies in the field.

Ricky Hodsoll: His determination to stay to the wicket help lift St. George's out of a crisis at 26 for three. Played anchor role in fourth-wicket stand of 109 with acting captain Clay Smith (72) then exploded in the latter stages when the east-enders added 81 off the last 10 overs. Gave one chance before reaching 50 but century was hard earned and yielded 10 fours and five sixes.

Rodney Fubler: So what if it was only against PHC -- seven for six is seven for six! Fubler led all bowlers last season with 64 wickets, and the mark of a front-line bowler is to be able to produce against sub-standard opposition.

Gerald Sims: Sims, or Hose as he is commonly known, is easier linked to the soccer pitch than to cricket. But obviously he can bowl as figures of seven for 22 from 10 overs against Social Club proved over the weekend. Chasing 233, Social Club's chances were not as remote as one might believe. They were actually 52 for one before Sims first struck and then the rest of the batting order gave in to his off-breaks.
