Chile, have finished a creditable 38th out of 52 countries.

But there was disappointment when a disastrous back nine in yesterday's final round at the tough par-72, 7,050 yard La Dehesa course denied the Island quartet a much higher placing.

Youngster Michael Sims, who had spearheaded Bermuda's charge on the opening three days, slumped to a frustrating 86; Henry Ascento, who was just two-over-par after 16 holes, double bogeyed the par-three 17th and then took triple bogey on the par five 18th to card 79; and Andrew Trott's troubles continued as he double bogeyed the last two holes to finish on 83.

Blake Marshall, the senior member of the squad, turned in the day's best performance, a four-over-par 76.

"Overall we've got to be pleased with our final position and the way we played. But it was disappointing to finish like that,'' said team manager Steve Perry last night.

"The back nine and the last two holes in particular cost us a much higher finish.

"Michael (Sims) had been playing great all week, he had been among the top 100 in the individual standings. But yesterday it all fell apart for him.'' Yesterday's final team score -- only the top three cards count -- was 238, one more than on Saturday when Sims and Ascento both shot 77s and Marshall and Trott both 83s.

Bermuda had entered the third round in 36th position, dropped to 41st on Saturday but in windy conditions, which many of the nations found difficult yesterday, rebounded to 38th.

"Going into the day the guys were optimistic of a finish somewhere in the low 30s,'' added Perry. "And everything was going well on the front nine. In fact, all four players were either just one or two over par at the turn. But it was a tough back nine.

"Blake was very steady but the others struggled at the end.'' Final Bermuda scores: Michael Sims 75-74-77-86--312 Blake Marshall 78-79-83-76--316 Henry Ascento 81-81-77-79--318 Andrew Trott 87-88-83-83--341
