But at nearby Devonshire Rec., St. David's staged an even bigger coup and the man in the middle of it all was all-rounder Lionel Cann.

St. David's were coming off a morale-sapping loss to Flatts at the same venue.

And the four-run win over Devonshire was only their second in four outings.

Cann is joined in this week's Fab Five by Tyrone Smith of Police, Clay Smith of St. George's, Arnold Manders of Western Stars and Roger Blades of Police.

Lionel Cann: The only thing in his way over the years has been attitude, or else he could be automatic as heir apparent to Clevie Wade or Noel Gibbons in the senior national team. Took a week off and St. David's lost to Flatts.

Returned last week and scored 43 at number five and then claimed five for 23 as Devonshire crashed from 146 for three to 158 all out. Dismissed the four men in the heart of Devonshire line-up -- skipper Albert Steede, Anthony Amory, Jason Lewis and Mark Ray.

Tyrone Smith: One of the few players who can bring on cardiac arrest -- for the right AND wrong reasons. His dynamic strokeplay was exhibited in a dashing knock of 76 as Police chased Bailey's Bay's formidable total of 264 for seven.

Police were well in control with Smith at the wicket but, as has been the case so often in the past, he threw his wicket away trying to hit Charlie Marshall into orbit. Earlier claimed three for 35 from 10 overs in trying conditions.

Clay Smith: Developing into a useful off-spinner and the ever under-prepared White Hill strip was the ideal training ground. Smith claimed three for 24 from 10 overs and returned on a difficult pitch to bat on to make an undefeated 52. St. George's went to the top of the league with the victory.

Arnold Manders: Added wickets to his meagre runs-per-over average by claiming seven for 12 in 9.5 overs against Warwick. Not much else be said here.

Roger Blades: A rare exception to the Fab Five considering he only claimed one for 65 and scored 38 not out. However, on this occasion, given the magnitude of the match, Blades is deserving of the notoriety. On Sunday, this was one cop who took no prisoners. Just when it appeared Police had blown their chances against Bay, Blades emerged to blast their opponents into oblivion.

Four mammoth sixes were included in his innings at number seven which further illustrates the depth in the Police batting line-up. His bowling returns can be improved, though he did account for the wicket of top scorer Glenn Smith.

LIONEL CANN -- Dismissed the heart of Devonshire line-up.
