Coach Anderson quits Cougars
Gazette has learned.
His decision was reportedly made early last week after the Devonshire side fell to their third defeat in four matches, losing 1-0 to fellow strugglers BAA.
Growing dissension among the side was cited as a major reason, with players openly questioning the former Bermuda international's coaching methods -- particularly the lack of blackboard work and discussion of on-field tactics.
Club officials were reluctant to speak on the issue of Anderson's position, although one did concede that the coach had quit after just one season and only four games into the current campaign.
Anderson, once a star midfielder with a number of teams, including Devonshire, Boulevard and PHC, took over the club last year, guiding them to a 14-2-0 won-draw-loss record and promotion to the First Division.
However, even after making some additions to fortify the ranks, Cougars have looked mediocre at best, with yesterday's 2-0 loss to Dandy Town ensuring their remaining at the foot of the table.
Talk has already started of a quick return to the lower level and it is not yet known who will take over the reins, with former coach and organisation main-stay Arnold West being mentioned, although former player Mark Jennings was seen directing the team yesterday at St. John's Field.
Anderson was unavailable for comment last night.
