Douglas takes setback in stride
"disappointed'' over missing out on an opportunity to play in the ICC Trophy tournament for a fourth time.
But the Cleveland County star conceded that he did not mind losing his place to someone deserving like the younger Dean Minors.
Douglas was looking forward to the trip to Kenya in January having represented Bermuda in the prestigous tournament in England twice and in Holland in 1990, but he was not bitter over the decision to go with the 23-year-old Minors.
"Dean is a young player who is not afraid to work for something, so this whole thing overshadows the disappointment,'' said Douglas.
"I admit to being a bit disappointed. But after thinking about it I accept the decision because I was beaten out by somebody who is worthy of the position.'' Douglas has been assisting in the coaching of the squad and said he plans to continue in this position despite the setback.
"Of course I'll be making myself available to continue working with them.
It's just my nature to do so despite what has happened. I just feel that I have spent too much time with them to just say, `that's it' at this stage,'' he said.
Douglas feels that the squad chosen is a decent one with lots of potential and all-round ability.
"It's a good one with a good blend of youth and experience, although the public would have like to have seen more youngsters included,'' he said.
"There is a neat blend when you look at the experienced players, the fine batsmen, the two spinners Del Hollis and Bruce Perinchief and the pace attack.
Bermuda does not have a lot of players to choose from and I think the team is fine.''
